I started MichMitts.com just after having pacemaker surgery back in December of 2018. Recovery was happening during the Holidays and I had a box of sweaters in my basement. Having seen a tutorial about making mittens from sweaters I thought it was a perfect gift idea. Gifts from the heart while my heart was healing.

After telling a friend (shout out to Martie!) about my idea to make mittens from sweaters she pointed out the flaw with mittens in an age where a cell phone is crucial to everyday life. You cannot use your thumbs or fingers without taking them off and possibly losing one or both of them. She encouraged me to keep the mittens 2 ply but

You cannot use your thumbs or fingers without taking them off and possibly losing one or both of them. She encouraged me to keep the mittens 2 ply but, design them so your fingers and thumbs could be released without taking the mittens off, ensuring use of your extremities while keeping the mittens on.

I was confident I would be able to find a sewing pattern for sweater mittens that had texting features. While there were lots of patterns for knitting and crocheting texting mittens there was not one for sewing sweater mittens. It was really unbelievable. I went to work designing my own pattern and MichMitts was born.

It’s a well know fact that mittens are warmer than gloves because fingers generate more heat when they are together. My patented design is in keeping with the original utility of mittens while adding a different look by squaring the tops instead of the traditional rounded upper.
No two pairs of my mittens are alike so you will be getting a pair of mittens handcrafted by me that will be unique to you.
